Short summary of business:

Label / Party Crew / Sound System

What’s your history in the industry?

Back when i left school I got a job fixing stereos at a local electronics repair joint. That’s probably where my obsession with steza’s and audio technology started.
I tried allot of other things but I was always drawn back to music.
I built the buisness around my passions so i suppose my life is my history.

How long has Crank The Steza been around?

Since 2004

Do you have any interesting stories that have taken place?

Ohhh yeah! working in the community is full of interesting stories.. Thats what its all about for me. Stories are more valuable than money.

Why did you start Crank The Steza?

Apart from my own reasons, like gaining experience and creating a role in the community I wanted to give something back. I noticed a gap in the needs of fringe artists. Too often I would see the artists/promoters doing all the hard work to get punters along to a venue and come away with nothing and more often than not losing money while the venue cleans up at the bar. By offering affordable sound hire that they can transport and run them selves gives them the freedom to run their own show where ever they like. It opens up so many more spaces as venue’s. Its fun to get away from bars and clubs.

Was finding start up capital difficult?

No it was way too easy unfortunatley. I just went to the bank and took out a high interest loan. i wouldnt do that again.

How many hours per week do you spend on your business?

Im constantly working on my buisness especially the blog side of it. I probably spend about 30hrs a week on it.

What are your favourite parts of your business?

That would have to be seeing people loosing it on the dancefloor or a band say to me wow weve never heard our tracks sound so good!

What are your future goals?

I’d love to have a CTS library of vintage drum machines and synths.

What tips do you have for “making it” in the creative industries?

Do what you love and youll love what you do.. regardless of how much money you make.

What’s the best way to contact you?
