Yaman Interview, Nov 2010
Name:
Yaman
Where did your name come from?
I really like when people say "yeah man" when they like something. I thought it will be cool to have it as a name in one word.
Who’s in the band? What’s your musical background? When did you start playing?
I’ve played guitar, piano and keys since I was a small kid. Seven years ago I realised computers can give you access to any instrument you want, so I've started creating beats and backingtracks.
Has your music evolved since you first began playing together?
There is no actual stage in producing music or playing instruments when you think you're good enough and say: "ok, now I reached the top level of my musical abilities or instrument skills" and it is true. No! Because a few monts later you will say the same again.
How would you describe your music to people?
In my music I always try to find a unique sound and rhythm that feels great, and brings new inspiring ideas and thoughts. Sometimes its very hard to classify these beats as a particular genre.
Who are your musical influences?
Massive Attack, AIR, Moby, Hybrid, SIA, Kosheen
What has been your biggest highlight as a musician?
I've released great albums and singles working with great vocalists, mostly from Europe. My tracks have also been used as a jingles and background music in various commercial projects.
What are your long-term goals as a musician?
I would love to work my whole life with different vocalists, songwriters and musicians, and create worldwide productions
Do you have any tips?
Always write your ideas down. Record vocal and instrumental melodies if you think they sound great. Sometimes playing the same guitar riffs, melodies or singing lyrics a few days later is impossible, cause you don't feel it any more with the same passion. So it’s a great idea to “catch the right moment”.
